The Gathering

"The Gathering" Code of Ethics

- I will never reveal the existence of "The Gathering" to non-members, except through the new member acquisition process.

- I will oppose the willful exposure of any of the principals of the magical arts, or the secrets of any effect to the lay public.

- I will display ethical behavior in the presentation of magic to the public and in my conduct as a magician, including not interfering with, or jeopardizing the performance of another magician, either through personal intervention or the unauthorized use of another's creation, script, music, or creative work.

- I will recognize and respect the rights of the creators, inventors, authors and owners of magic concepts, presentations, effects, music and literature and their right to have exclusive use of, or grant permission for the use of such creations.

- I will not support companies or individuals who disregard the rights of the creators, inventors, authors and owners and will encourage others to not support them as well.

- I will promote the ethical treatment and care of livestock, used in magical performances.

- I will, in ALL cases, obtain permission from the creator, inventor, author or owner of the rights of an effect, routine, presentation, music, or script, BEFORE using it. If the owner or creator cannot be contacted, I will not use his or her work. 

"The Gathering" New Member Acquisition Process

1 - A member, in good standing, presents a name for potential membership.

2 - The Membership will question the member who presents the prospect, about the potential new member. If there are no objections, the prospect will be sent an anonymous invitation to attend a future Gathering.

3 - The prospect attends a Gathering and completes an application for membership.

4 - The Membership discusses the applicant and votes to accept or deny membership.

5 - If accepted, the applicant will be invited to attend a second Gathering.

6 - Applicant will be initiated into "The Gathering".
